Dinner Theater Draws Big Crowds During Day 2 At The Fair

CENTRAL POINT, OREGON — With beautiful weather, a full lineup of talented Dinner Stage performers, and the classic American band The Beach Boys, day two of the Jackson County Fair proved to be a fun and well-attended community event, according to Jackson County Fairgrounds & Expo Park Director Dave Koellermeier. The Fair, presented by Sherms, runs today through Sunday at the Jackson County Fairgrounds & Expo Park in Central Point.

"The Dinner Theater continues to impress me with the excellent level of talent playing throughout the day and even into the evening," said Koellermeier. "The crowds at those concerts remained full all day, even during the free Beach Boys concert at the basically full Lithia Motors Amphitheater, which is pretty impressive."

Between 400 and 500 people attended Wednesday's 4H & FFA Grand Champion Market Hog Auction, which had 147 sale lots averaging over $5 a pound.

Today's activities are highlighted by country superstar Wynonna performing at 8 p.m. on the Lithia Motors Amphitheater Headline Stage. Her first three singles, “She Is His Only Need,” “I Saw the Light,” and “No One Else on Earth,” all reached No. 1 on the U.S. Country singles charts. Lawn seating is free for the concert, and Reserved Golden Circle tickets can be purchased for $10 plus $9 fair admission.

The Dinner Stage, between Compton Arena and the food court, features another strong lineup of performers including B Style at noon, magician Adam the Great at 1 p.m. and again at 5:40 p.m., Chelsea Lena at 1:40 p.m., Paul Jenny and Tom Freeman at 3 p.m., Roadmasters at 4:20 p.m., Rhythm Kings at 6:20 p.m., Rogue Suspects at 7:55 p.m., and Dan Daniella and Oregon Rain at 9:30 p.m.

Other highlights include ScoobyDoo and Ben 10 costumed characters in the Charter KidZone at noon, 3, 6 and 9 p.m., All-Alaskan Racing Pigs in the Compton Arena at 2, 4, 6 and 8 p.m., and J.D. Platt and His K9 Kings Flying Dog Show in front of the Compton Arena at 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m.

Admission is $9 for adults, $6 for youth ages 7 to 12 and seniors 62 and older, and free for children 6 and under; Sunday admission is free. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Carnival hours are noon to 11 p.m. through Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Parking is $4, or fairgoers can catch an air-conditioned bus ride for just $1 from Sherm’s Food 4 Less on Biddle Road, or from Crater High School, Central Point.
